A documentary featuring the honest side of girl group BLACKPINK will be released on Netflix for the first time as a K-pop group.
According to YG Entertainment and Netflix on the 9th, "Blackpink: Light Up the Sky" will be released exclusively on Netflix on the 14th of next month.
This is the fourth time Netflix has produced an original documentary on female artists.
Earlier, Lady Gaga's "Gaga: Five Foot Two," Beyonce's "Homecoming" and Taylor Swift's "Miss Americana" were created.
The agency added, "There was an 'Explain' series about the K-pop craze and the secret to success, but this is the first Netflix original documentary that focuses on a single Korean artist."
"BLACKPINK: Light the World" is a documentary about BLACKPINK's four years since their debut in 2016. From his trainee days to today's growth as a global star, various videos, exclusive interviews, dorm life, and behind-the-scenes stories will be highlighted.
"Through the album recording process and interviews, we will be able to see how 'Artist BLACKPINK' exerts synergy and melts individual lives," the agency said.
The production was directed by Caroline Seo, who performed the documentary "Salt, Mountain, Local, Fire."
"I was able to capture the candid and natural moments of the members thanks to director Seo's good relationship with the members of Black Pink," said Adam del Deo, a Netflix documentary. "I'm very lucky to be working with Black Pink, the most popular girl group in the world at the moment."
Black Pink is rapidly expanding its fandom in the global music market, including North America and Europe, beyond Korea and Asia.
In July, it ranked 33rd on the U.S. Billboard's main single chart "Hot 100" with "How You Like That," setting the highest record for K-pop girl groups, and its new song "Ice Cream" broke its own record as it entered 13th on the chart.
Selena Gomez, who participated in the "Ice Cream" feature, made headlines in a recent interview by saying, "I have much more to learn."
Gomez responded like this when host Nikki Tutorial asked on YouTube on the 7th (local time), "As a veteran singer, what advice would you give to BLACKPINK?"
Gomez praised, "I've never seen a team with a good sense of work like Blackpink," adding, "They're so well-trained and talented that they don't seem to have tried anything."
